Lauren Grey

art director / senior-level designer

About

Life is a life-long assignment that must be constantly analyzed, clarified, figured out, and responded to appropriately.

Chip Kidd
I've been a creative person my entire life. Starting back as a child using my imagination and drawing, through my education taking art classes and coming up with ideas on how to do things differently, to now as a graphic design professional.

I see design all around me and it inspires me to keep learning and always trying to do something new and expand my skills and creative thinking. I've found my passion and it just happens to also be my hobby.

Skills

If people believe they share values with a company, they will stay loyal to the brand.

Howard Schultz
To effectively brand anything you need to truly understand the essence of the people behind it. Asking lots of questions to the people passionate about their company will help them reveal that essence. It's exciting to start to see what they are trying to convey.
Once I have felt the passion, I work to translate that into a visual representation in ways that make sense and some that don't. Experimentation will almost always reveal something unexpected that is much more interesting.

Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.

Steve Jobs
I am very fortunate to have found a career in design. It has fit my thirst for knowledge and innate curiousity better than any other career. When I move throughout my day I'm in constant wonder at the world around me and all the creativity that surrounds us that we take for granted.
I utilize design as a problem-solving tool. Whether it's creating an ad or working on a personal project, I use design to convey a message or emotion – the process is as rewarding as the end-product to me.

Great web design without functionality is like a sports car with no engine.

Paul Cookson
Web design has changed tremendously since I started back in 1996. It's gone from being a purely informational tool to a visually interesting medium to an interactive way of life. If I've learned one thing it's that web design is ever evolving.
Designing for the web will always be an interesting challenge for no other reason than it's ever-changing and that is what makes it such a great medium to design for.

Measuring programming progress by lines of code is like measuring aircraft building progress by weight.

Bill Gates
Programming was something I never set out to do, especially considering how left-brain it can be at times, but learning how to code HTML back in the late 90s really got me interested in becoming a more well-rounded designer and it's a great way to exercise my whole mind.
With coding changing sometimes even more rapidly than design, it's pretty tough to keep up, but with the tools at our disposal as well as gifted programmers, design and development have never worked so well together to create a rich user-experience.

Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.

Pablo Picasso
I love to design, and I also love to mentor other designers. Passing on experience that I've either learned from mentors myself or through trial and error is very rewarding when you see someone develop, gain confidence and grow. It's a role that I enjoy and feel I have
My philosophy is not to push my ideas, but try and find the best elements of a current design and help the designer elevate them further. Sometimes it only takes a few small tweaks to make a design work. Whenever I mentor it's an interactive process where I provide feedback and explain the why's so that nothing I'm suggesting seems arbitrary.

Why Choose Me?

I'm Creative

No matter what I do, I incorporate creative thinking into it. Whether it's the work I do, the things I like or even the conversations I have – creativity plays a part.

I'm Deadline-Driven

Timelines frame solutions. I keep the deadline and the budget in mind whenever I'm working on a project. I've always felt a finish line is a great thing to keep in sight.

I'm dedicated

When I am given a task, I see it through. If it takes more time or additional learning to accomplish, I'm going to do whatever it takes to achieve the desired end-goal.

I love design

I have never tired of design and am always being inspired by it and the ways that we interact with it. It's my way of life and I will never stop being a designer.

I'm always improving

I'm always seeking out new things to improve my skills. I am self-taught in a lot of techniques and technologies and will always continue that practice.

I'm a team player

Working well with others has always been a strength. I am a collaborator and good listener – which makes a difference when you are part of a team.
